Week Beginning 15th March 2010 Monday is Citizenship Day for years 7-10 and you will have a different timetable for the day so you can meet with visiting speakers and be involved in activities and presentations. Week Beginning 1st March 2010 Monday 1st March is year 11 Photographs so it is imperitvie that proper school uniform is worn. Any students not appropriately dressed will not be included in the photographs. Thursday 4th March is World Book Day and all staff and students are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book. The emphasis for the week will be based on reading and literacy skills, bring a book to read during mentor period this week. |

Week Beginning 22nd February 2010 On Monday, all year 11 students are required to go to the hall for their year group assembly during mentor period. For those students going on the school's ski trip to Austria this April, there is a meeting for students and parents on thursday 25th February. For more information please see Mr Clee. Horbury School has been given the opportunity to take part in the BBC School Report. Our ‘Reporters’ will be taking part in their second practice News Day on Thursday 4th February when they will be making their own news. They will be reporting on things going on in our school as well as National and International issues. During the ultimate News Day on 11 March 2010, students will be working to a 2pm deadline to create video, audio and text-based news before publishing it on our school website by 4pm which will be linked to the BBC. Throughout the day, the progress of students across the UK will be featured in an hour-by-hour account on the BBC Website, enabling students to compare their work with other School Reporters. Some schools will have their reports shown on National and Local BBC News. Week Beginning 25th January 2010 There is an assembly for all year 11 students on Monday in the Hall, The theme of the assembly will be based on analysis of recent year 11 data. There will also be a meeting on Tuesday 26th January in the conference room (opposite the restaurant) with Ms Oakley, Miss Gibbs, Mr Harrison and Mr Robery. This is for selected students only, students will be informed on Monday if they will be involved in this meeting. Year12 Taster Day at Ossett School is on Friday 29th for those students that have returned reply slips. I hope you enjoy your day and learn lots about the courses on offer. This week is the beginning of Year 11 interviews for those students who have applied to Horbury School 6th form. Interview letters have been placed in Learning Group trays. You are expected to bring any relevant documents with you to interview, along with a short CV. World Bear is looking for a volunteer to take him on holiday during half term. If you are going somewhere that World Bear can go to he would love to hear about it. He loves having his photograph taken and gets involved in most activities. Please e-mail World Bear using the link on the world Bear page to tell him where you plan to go and what activities he would be taking part in. 10 house points will be awarded to every genuine entry and 200 house points for the winner who gets to take World Bear on holiday and write his journal. The deadline for entries is Friday 5th February 2010, please remember to include your name and learning group on the e-mail. |

Week Beginning 11th January 2010 On Monday there is a Year 10 Options assembly in the hall during mentor period, please be prompt to the hall. You will receive your options booklet and given guidelines for taking your options for Year 11. Many important exams are taking place over the next few weeks for KS4 students. Even in the event of bad weather every effort will be made to ensure exams still run, when exams are running you MUST attend as no special consideration is given for absence from exams due to bad weather. Updates of school closures and the possible effect on exams will be posted on the main website. |

Week Beginning 4th January 2010 Happy New Year! Welcome back to a new term. I hope you all made the most of the Winter break and the snowy weather. More snow is forecast for our area so keep an eye on the front page of the website or listen to Radio Leeds or Ridings FM if you think school may be closed. School will only be closed in the most difficult circumstances so it is an unlikely event. In any event please make sure you dress according to the weather with sensible shoes and warm clothing. Have you made a New Year's resolution? Now is the time to make a fresh start and look ahead to what you want to achieve, set yourself a goal and work hard to meet it. |

These exams will take place in your normal lesson times but will give your teacher a clear indication of what level/grade you are currently at. Week Beginning 16th November 2009 Monday is a 'Wear It Blue' Day. It is a non-uniform day, please make the effort to wear something blue. This event is to highlight the national anti-bullying week and to raise money for the 'Beat Bullying' campaign. Each student will be expected to make a £1 donation for the priviledge of not wearing uniform for the day. Wrist bands will also be on sale for an additional £1 each. Any further information about the anti-bullying programmes in school please contact a member of the Cyber mentor group.

Week Beginning 9th Novemebr 2009 Many KS4 students will be sitting exams this week in the hall. Please ensure you know where to go and when and bring correct equipment. The first exam is English GCSE on Monday morning. You will need to go to your first lesson as normal to register then make your way to the hall as directed. All year 11 students received exam guidelines in last weeks assembly, there is no assembly this week for year 10 so guidelines will be placed in learning group trays. Please make sure you collect your envelope from your learning guide. Remember to look on the sections of the website to view the deadlines for coursework and when revision and coursework sessions are held for each subject area. Good Luck! |

Students will receive information coursework sessions, coursework deadlines, exams and exam regulations and how to apply for 6th Form. As of this week students can apply for 6th form at Horbury School. Week Beginning 19th October 2009 On Tuesday 20th October it is 'Wear it Pink' day at school, a non-uniform day to raise money for cancer charities. Mr Campbell has more information on this event. Wednesay 21st October is Student Review Day. Please make sure you know when your appointment is and be punctual. You should bring your student planners with you and ensure you have your target grades from your teachers. Some year 11 students will also be instructed to sit the Adult Literacy and Numeracy tests during this day, letters have been issued and you are expected to attend. Thursday 22nd October at 7:30pm is the jhudging for the 2009 'Horbury's Got Talent', Ms McNeil has more information on this event. School breaks up for 1 week on Friday 23rd October for half term, this is a normal school day. Students return to school on Monday 2nd November. |

Week Beginning 28th September 2009 On Monday the school will be celebrating the European Day of Languages, lessons will be introduced in different languages throughout the day. Please make an extra effort to use your Europen language skills through out the day and get involved in the quizes and activities. Wednesday is the School Open Evening and school closes at 12:15pm. I have been very impressed with the behaviour and progress of learning for the vast majority of KS4 students in school last week, although uniform remains an issue and must be sorted immediately. It is compulsory that you wear your blazers at all times unless permission from a member of staff is given during lessons, this includes year 11 students. |

Week Beginning 7th September 2009Hello, this is Miss Gibbs. I just wanted to welcome you all back from what i hope was a very enjoyable summer holiday. Some of you may be aware that i am now accountable for all attainment and progress at KS4 which includes your exams, your options and your mentoring progamme. As SLT i am also linked to year 11 and you will be seeing me and Mr Harrison in most of your assemblies as Mr Harrison will be keeping an eye on your behaviour! As KS4 students i hope you look after our KS3 students and in particular our newest students, year 7. This year most of you will be taking GCSEs and i wish you all the best of luck with your studies. Work hard and you will be rewarded with good grades.
