Week Beginning 1st March 2010 Thursday 4th March is World Book Day and all staff and students are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book. The emphasis for the week will be based on reading and literacy skills, bring a book to read during mentor period this week. Thursday 4th March is also Year 7 Parents' Evening, please make sure you are making appointments with your teachers for the evening. |

Horbury School has been given the opportunity to take part in the BBC School Report. Our ‘Reporters’ will be taking part in their second practice News Day on Thursday 4th February when they will be making their own news. They will be reporting on things going on in our school as well as National and International issues. During the ultimate News Day on 11 March 2010, students will be working to a 2pm deadline to create video, audio and text-based news before publishing it on our school website by 4pm which will be linked to the BBC. Throughout the day, the progress of students across the UK will be featured in an hour-by-hour account on the BBC Website, enabling students to compare their work with other School Reporters.

Week Beginning 25th January 2010 All year 8 DT groups rotate this week so please ensure you know which teacher and room you need to go to. The theme for assemblies this week is 'Legacy of Hope' and will be lead by different Learning Groups. World Bear is looking for a volunteer to take him on holiday during half term. If you are going somewhere that World Bear can go to he would love to hear about it. He loves having his photograph taken and gets involved in most activities. Please e-mail World Bear using the link on the world Bear page to tell him where you plan to go and what activities he would be taking part in. 10 house points will be awarded to every genuine entry and 200 house points for the winner who gets to take World Bear on holiday and write his journal. The deadline for entries is Friday 5th February 2010, please remember to include your name and learning group on the e-mail. |

Week Beginning 4th January 2010 Happy New Year! Welcome back to a new term. I hope you all made the most of the Winter break and the snowy weather. More snow is forecast for our area so keep an eye on the front page of the website or listen to Radio Leeds or Ridings FM if you think school may be closed. School will only be closed in the most difficult circumstances so it is an unlikely event. In any event please make sure you dress according to the weather with sensible shoes and warm clothing. Have you made a New Year's resolution? Now is the time to make a fresh start and look ahead to what you want to achieve, set yourself a goal and work hard to meet it. |

Week Beginning 14th December 2009 This is your last week at school for the term before you depart for your Christmas Break. School closes on Friday 18th December at 12:00pm to all students, please make arrangements for this day to ensure a safe journey home. All students will return on Monday 4th January. Year 8 students will receive letters home before the end of the week inviting students and parents to the Year 8 parent and options evening on 14th January 2010. On the first day back in January there is a year 8 assembly to go through your options and you will all receive an options booklet to take home. You will not receive your option form until the parent evening. Have a Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year! |

Week Beginning 30th November School Cabinet meetings will be held this week so if you want to have your say may sure you tell your prime ministers who will represent your views in the meeting. Year 8 reports are currently being written by all members of staff over the next couple of weeks, these will be given to students and parents after Christmas. Now is a good time to reflect on what you have achieved so far this year and set yourselves targets for what you want to achieve before Christmas or before the end of year 8. What will your New Year's resolution be? Start thinking now and get a head start! |

Week Beginning 16th November 2009 Monday is a 'Wear It Blue' Day. It is a non-uniform day, please make the effort to wear something blue. This event is to highlight the national anti-bullying week and to raise money for the 'Beat Bullying' campaign. Each student will be expected to make a £1 donation for the priviledge of not wearing uniform for the day. Wrist bands will also be on sale for an additional £1 each. Any further information about the anti-bullying programmes in school please contact a member of the Cyber mentor group. |

Week Beginning 9th November 2009 This week there will be GCSE exams in the hall for KS4 students so please be quiet so as not to disturb them. KS3 students also have exams in the hall this week, it is important that you perform to the best of your ability in these exams to ensure your teachers can then accurately predict your subject grades. Please make sure that you are adequately equipped for the exam with black pens, pencils, rulers, rubber and a sharpener. |

Week Beginning 19th October 2009 This week is the student voice fair, please make an effort to see what student voice groups are on offer and make sure your voice is heard by signing up to at least one group. On Tuesday 20th October it is 'Wear it Pink' day at school, a non-uniform day to raise money for cancer charities. Mr Campbell has more information on this event. Wednesay 21st October is Student Review Day. Please make sure you know when your appointment is and be punctual. You should bring your student planners with you and ensure you have your target grades from your teachers. Thursday 22nd October at 7:30pm is the jhudging for the 2009 'Horbury's Got Talent', Ms McNeil has more information on this event. School breaks up for 1 week on Friday 23rd October for half term, this is a normal school day. Students return to school on Monday 2nd November. |

This will be held in the atrium during the Year 7 and 8 lunchtimes on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October. Students will get the chance to go around to various Student Voice stalls and join up for student groups. So before next week have a think about which groups you want to join.
